Bespoke FAKRO conservation roof windows for flagship Edinburgh development

Bespoke FAKRO conservation roof windows have been used in the multi-award winning Advocate’s Close project in Edinburgh. Winner of the Andrew Doolan Prize 2014 for ‘Best building in Scotland’, the restoration involved redevelopment of 16th and 18th century listed buildings in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. This was formerly occupied by the City of Edinburgh Council and encompasses 9 listed buildings between the High St, Cockburn St and Market St. FAKRO windows were specified for the new 208 room hotel – ‘Motel One Edinburgh Royal’ in Market Street, the UK’s first Motel One. Morgan McDonnell Architecture specified 25 roof windows which included smoke vent, flat roof, fixed closed and top hung designs. The site which was also winner of the Scottish Property Awards this year has 29 luxury serviced apartments which overlook Waverley station, restaurants, offices, bars and cafes as well as a new pedestrian thoroughfare linking Advocate’s Close with the News Steps.
